THE ELEPHANT HOUSE

Arguably the most famous café in Edinburgh, The Elephant house earned it’s remarkable reputation as the “birthplace” of Harry Potter where it is known J.K Rowling spent much of her early writing career. As a result of this, the café has become a tourism hot spot with bus tours stopping to walk in the shoes of Rowling.

After twenty three years in service The Elephant House was overdue a refresh. Keen to retain the existing charm, SPLINTR were tasked with tentatively redesigning the front servery, merchandise retail area and commercial kitchen with a modern interpretation of the original.  Using dark wooden tones from locally sourced Scottish oak and simple, clean lines the SPLINTR team transformed the café in a week to reveal a fresh and welcoming new appearance that held on to it’s identity.
